Celebrating St. Barbara’s Day (to honor the patron saint of tunnelers) on Tuesday, December 4, 2018, members of the New Zealand Tunnelling Society and guests had the opportunity to use sophisticated shotcrete training equipment that allows skills to be appreciated without a cube of concrete wasted or a drop of sweat expended.
BASF NZ Ltd made its Edvirt 3D simulator training equipment and trainer available so that everyone could see what is available in the marketplace for the training of nozzle operators.
It was also the first time McMillen Jacobs competed for the Golden Nozzle Award, given for the most concrete sprayed in the least time with the least rebound and best average thickness. We had a strong team that included Sam Burges, Victor Lee, and Katerina Howard from McMillen Jacobs Auckland office. So, it is no surprise that we took the prize home this year, with Katerina Howard leading the score board!
