Three presentations were given at the Association of Environmental & Engineering Geologists (AEG) 64th Annual Meeting, held September 20–26 in San Antonio, TX: Ethan Guzek and Thomas Pallua presented “Improving Rock Slope Stability Investigations Using UAV-Based 3D Modeling”; Dru R. Nielson and Su Soe presented “The Geology of a Tuolumne River Crossing in the Poopenaut Valley of Yosemite National Park, California”; and Jamie Schick, along with David Tsztoo and Joe Buitrago of the San Franciscio Public Utilities Commission (SFPUC), presented “Mountain Tunnel Access Roadway Improvements.”
Fred Marquis presented “Second Narrows Water Supply Tunnel: An Overview of Shaft and Tunnel Seismic Design in Liquefiable Deposits” at the Tunnelling Association of Canada Conference, in Toronto, Ontario, held on October 19–21. The paper was coauthored by Upul Atukorala of Golder Associates and Murray Gant of Metro Vancouver.
Thomas Pallua, Joe Schrank, and William C. Gates, along with Gabe McClain of Guy F. Atkinson Construction, published “Comparison of Ground Vibrations vs. Frequencies to Strain Rates from Blasting Operations at the Tennessee Capitol Corridor in Nashville, TN” in the September/October issue of The Journal of Explosives Engineering.
Joe Schrank presented “Anything but Boring – Designing and Constructing a New Raw Water Tunnel” with Kyle Mangum of Barge Design Solutions at the 2021 American Water Works Association KY/TN 17th Annual Water Professionals Conference, held August 15–18 in Chattanooga, TN.
