Kurt McManigal specializes in the management of large-scale heavy civil, structural, and concrete projects in the heavy civil, energy, transportation, and water resources markets. In addition to his Board of Directors position, he provides oversight to McMillen Jacobs’ Construction Operation Managers and offers guidance based on his years of lessons learned and best practices. He works with clients through a collaborative process to provide added value to complex projects. During his 16 years with Kiewit, Kurt managed a wide variety of heavy civil projects. Construction projects under his direction have included contracts valued at over $1.5B and several at $400M. He was responsible for overall management of operations, in which he communicated regularly with owners and partners concerning project schedules and monitored and reorganized project resources to ensure on-time execution of construction projects. He manages traditional design-bid-build contracts but also alternative methods such as design-build, EPC, and CM/GC. Scopes of work have involved mass excavation, earthwork, and grading, with one project requiring up to 4.5M cy of material to be moved. He has also managed demolition; dam modifications; spillway channel excavations; and the construction of bridges, roads, MSE walls, reinforced concrete paving, asphalt, rip rap placement, drainage systems, and large industrial buildings.
